During my life in the theater I have stage managed in a lot of interesting places, but last night was probably one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. Several weeks back when Bill announced he was coming to Montana to do his show, he told me he had a one-night gig at a nudist resort in Northern Idaho called The Sun Meadow Resort just below Coeur d'Alene. Does being naked become more erotic than being nude? Yesterday as we were driving back from the gig at the Sun Meadow Nudist Resort I began to wonder: Is there a difference between being naked vs. being nude? Which is the more appropriate given the situation we were in? As I was writing yesterday’s blog I referred to being naked up to the point where I become comfortable with it and accepted the situation. [read more]

I have been working through 16GB of dance images the last couple of days. One of my contracts is with the University of Montana to photograph their Drama/Dance School productions. And dance is certainly the biggest event of the season. Typically after the show we have a photo call and create archive images of the production to be used as promotional materials for the University. [read more]

The shutter speed is how quickly the image is exposed. I began to allude to it a bit yesterday when I was talking about photographing dance. This is a part on my series of how the camera operates since we have so many people following this that are trying to get away from using their camera’s just set on automatic. [read more]

Last night I finally arranged to jump from the plane. It is scheduled for the morning after the party and the day before my birthday. Now that the weather has suddenly turned nice, my focus is drawn outside. It is becoming more and more difficult to do things inside. I watched a strange movie last night called Marwencol about a man who was severely beaten by 5 thugs because he was a cross dresser. He had such irreparable damage to his brain that he basically had to start his life over, once he recovered from the beating. His memory was completely lost and he had to relearn the rudimentary basics of walking and writing. [read more]

As a younger man, I did not have a very good self-image of myself. I was tall and skinny, clumsy and extremely awkward. I have a young kid coming into the studio this afternoon who I am really looking forward to working with. I met with him last week and did my regular interview kind of screening process. It was a rainy day in late May last year that I first join a site called Man Art. My friend Bryan Spellman, who is also a photographer here in Missoula, and whom I have known for decades and was one of original founders of the Out In Montana organization in the 80’s, encouraged me to join the site. Up to this point I had never shown any of my male art images to anyone, except the models I was working with of course. [read more]
